Tragedy struck at the Emirates Melbourne Cup once again as a second horse died in the aftermath of the race at Flemington. Cup runner Araldo, a smart stayer who placed seventh, was returning to the mounting yard when he was startled by a young boy waving a white flag in his face. He leapt, jumping the steel rail, shattering his cannon bone. He had to be euthanized due to his severe injuries. Racing Victoria tonight made an official statement supporting that the decision to euthanize was in the welfare of the horse.
It is sad that these deaths happen just after the race!
